Hey. I am Juha Knuuttila, I live in Finland in the city of Turku. You are now on a blog called The Knuuttila Family. The blog tells about the Finnish Knuuttila family from South Ostrobothnia. In my blog, I focus especially on the stories of the two brothers of the family who lived at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The younger of the brothers, Gabriel immigrated to the United States in the late 1880s, from where he later moved to Canada with his wife and family. The older of the brothers, Kustaa, lived all his life in Finland in the municipality of Alahärmä in South Ostrobothnia.
Every aging person becomes interested in their own roots, some more and others less. I am one of the first mentioned. For the last ten years, I have been doing tentative genealogy of our family, whenever there has been enough time. In the early 2010s, I started making a blog or a Facebook page about our family, but I abandoned my plan. I started writing Google Docks prose text. I wrote it until the beginning of autumn 2023.
Now in November I opened a blog called The Knuuttila Family. I started the blog by transferring three articles that were published in the Pori region's South Ostrobothnia magazine called Lakeus (Matti Kuhna, thanks for this publishing opportunity).
I will definitely continue to write and design this blog already this fall. My schedule and the time I have free from the rest of my life will show how the writing progresses.
In 2023, the digitalization of the world has progressed and communication between family members from different languages and language groups is effortless, thanks to e.g. Google translator. Since I have a lot of Facebook friends in North America, both in Canada and the United States, I write my blog in Finnish, but I always machine translate it into English immediatelly.
I hope that my blog will bring joy to as many representatives of the Knuuttila family all over the world in the coming years and through future articles. As soon as I have time, I'm going to tell you about the brothers' childhood home on "Knuuttilanraitti" in Alahärmä.
